Katy Carothers, DVM
Dr. Carothers began working in veterinary offices while still in high school. While in college, she worked on horse and dairy farms to gain valuable hands-on experience. She attended Clemson University, graduating in 2003 with a degree in Animal Science. She then earned her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from North Carolina State University's College of Veterinary Medicine in 2007.
After graduating, Dr. Carothers completed a yearlong internship at a private mixed-animal practice and then worked at an equine practice for seven years. 'In 2015, I decided to make a career change and transition to small animal practice,' she says.
Dr. Carothers joined Ambassador Animal Hospital in October 2015. As a small animal veterinarian, she enjoys learning something new every day from her patients. 'Everyone has been so welcoming and the atmosphere is very inclusive,' she says. 'The focus on providing excellent veterinary care and client service is incomparable. I feel so fortunate to be working with and learning from this group of great folks!'
In her free time, Dr. Carothers enjoys spending time with her husband Chip, reading, playing guitar, bowling, and attending baseball games. The Carothers had their first child in January 2018, and are adapting to parenthood. The couple also likes to bowl and attend baseball games. Together, they have three dogs, three cats, three American Quarter horses, and several egg-laying chickens. Dr. Carothers is a member of the American Quarter Horse Association.
